The Perla dei Vivi grape is a black variety from Emilia-Romagna about which very little information is available. This grape is known to be cultivated in just one vineyard in the province of Reggio Emilia, yet despite its rarity, it was registered in the National Register of Vine Varieties in 2007 and is mentioned in the production rules for the Colli di Scandiano e Canossa DOC. DNA analysis has shown that the Perla dei Vivi is not related to the Lambrusco group, though it is often considered a variety of that family. Based on the enological characteristics observed in the few confirmed vinifications, the Perla dei Vivi grape is suitable for making still wines with good structure and a more than satisfactory dry extract value.
