Lecinaro is an ancient indigenous grape variety from Lazio, recently rediscovered and registered in the National Register of Wine Grape Varieties in 2010, along with the grape varieties Capolongo, Maturano, Pampanaro, and Rosciola. These grape varieties were recovered thanks to a project by Arsial (Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation of Agriculture in Lazio), aimed at identifying the most qualified clones for grape varieties already registered in the Regional Register of Wine Grape Varieties, to highlight their distinctive elements and allow their development in the territory. Therefore, little is known about this grape variety, and very few producers offer it. Lecinaro is a grape variety with good oenological qualities and from the vinifications completed so far, it appears to be particularly suitable for aging, even with long maturation in wood.
From an ampelographic point of view, the Lecinaro grape variety has medium-sized, pentagonal, dark green leaves; its cluster is medium, conical with 1-3 wings, with medium-sized, elliptical berries, dark blue, with a thick and moderately pruinose skin. It is a moderately vigorous grape variety, with a late ripening period.
