The Incrocio Terzi N.1 grape variety is a cross between Barbera and Cabernet Franc, developed by the winemaker Riccardo Terzi in the Bergamo area. It is currently widespread in many areas of the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. The National Wine Grape Variety Register lists Incrocio Terzi N.1 in these two provinces and in the province of Sondrio as authorized. It is a black grape variety with good and regular productivity; the traditional training method is pergola, and it has no particular cultivation needs, although it is susceptible to humidity. The bunch of Incrocio Terzi N.1 is medium-sized, compact, pyramidal in shape, with one or two wings. The berry is medium-sized, round, with a moderately thick, pruinose, blue-black skin.
Generally, Incrocio Terzi N.1 is vinified in blends with other grape varieties, but some winemakers have started to produce it as a single varietal. The wine from Incrocio Terzi N.1 has a ruby red color with fruity, vinous aromas. On the palate, it is warm, dry, slightly tannic, full-bodied, suitable for aging, with a minimum alcohol content of 11.5%. This wine is well-suited for meals, pairing well with simple, lightly structured first courses, white and red meats, cold cuts, and medium-aged cheeses.
